The year 2023 will witness the first civilian mission to the Moon if everything goes as planned. Who is financing it you may wonder? Yusaku Maezawa, a Japanese billionaire.  He founded Start Today in 1998 and launched the online fashion retail website Zozotown in 2004, now Japan's largest. Most recently, Maezawa introduced a custom-fit apparel brand ZOZO and an at-home measurement system, the ZOZOSUIT, in 2018.

space-ship on moon

Yusaku Maezawa bought all the seats on SpaceX's Starship rocket to fly around the moon. It will be the first private lunar mission. It is expected to be a week-long journey around the moon and back.

The mission is scheduled to take 8 days from launch to return to Earth. This includes being within 200 km or 120 mi. from the lunar surface. While circling the Moon for three days, the spaceship will not make a lunar landing.

This mission will make the new era of space travel.
